EXHIBIT: OBJECTS FROM LYNCHBURG'S SALOONS

Saloons have been an important feature of Lynchburg since the early 1790’s as downtown businesses began to flourish. By the turn of the 20th century the taverns were attracting travelers and locals alike. As part of First Friday the museum will display items relating to this colorful and controversial history. Featured items will include glass bottles, advertisements, and papers from Main Street establishments like Bigbie Brothers and W.T. Steptoe and Co. We will also have on display items relating to the saloons L. Lazarus and Co. and Thomas A. Manning Saloon which were visited by Carry A. Nation when the prohibitionist came to the Hill City in 1907.
